mitt romney got almost 3 million votes less than john mccain did. this election, you could come up with a lot of arguments as to why mitt romney didn't win. i thought he left it all in the playing field. i thought he did as well as he could, given the circumstances. but the truth of the matter is, we couldn't come up with enough votes to win. and if you analyze this election, you can come up with 100 reasons why mitt romney lost. i'm looking towards 2016 and how can we, the gop, continue to be competitive and how can conservatives get their message across. i'm trying to tell you, to echo what patrick said. the first thing you have to do is show up. we didn't show up in the black community. we didn't show up enough in the hispanic community. we dedicated resources too little too late. and we need a long-term plan that dedicates enough resources to become competitive, knock on the door and do the things that we need to in the community. my comments about what won or lost this election are different than the comments about what's required to win the mi

photojournalist john torigoe has that story from california. >> i am currently in fighting training with the california conservation corps. hold it and just pull. there is an awful lot of training, so it's really good they're doing this especially for veterans because it can be hard sometimes to find good jobs. we played with the chain saw, just kind of get associated, a little more familiar with it. then we practiced laying hose from an engine, which we hadn't done yet, with actual water. >> that's what influences the land fires, right? >> since it's mostly veterans, it's really easy for a lot of us to just click and work together, so the teamwork thing fell into place very well. i was an aviation, hydraulics and air frame mechanic. i was at camp pendleton and we deployed to afghanistan in 2010. i know it was a really bloody summer while we were there. i saw a lot of bodies come back. >> my job was quarter master. we helped out with amphibious operations. i was so focused on the navy at one point in time, i never imagined myself being a firefighter. i never imagined myself going through

obama to the white house, both the president and house speaker john boehner vowed to find some common ground. >> well, clearly the deficit is a drag in our economy and we can't continue to spend money that we don't have. i don't want p to box myself in. i don't want to box anybody else in. i think it's important for us to come to an agreement with the president but this is his opportunity to lead. >> i want to be clear, i'm not we hadd wedded to every detail of my plan. i'm open to compromise. i'm open to new ideas. i'm committed to solving our fiscal challenges. but i refuse to accept any approach that isn't balanced. >> joining us now is a man who knows all about bipartisanship and compromise. former senator george mitchell is joining us. you were majority leader from 1989 to '95 during a time when senators and house members were actually friends. and i mean those on opposite sides of the party. so do you think the president and the house speaker's words this go around really will lead to some compromise or has a new page been turned here? are you encouraged? >> i'm hopeful about it

john logan sat in on rehearsals and was really generous, because i was probably a little bit kind of, i hope he forgives me but he just went away and he'd go away and come back with great dialogue and witty dialogue, a lightness of touch that i really wanted to get into the film. >> there's no shame in saying you've lost a step. >> were you a james bond fan? >> of course, i'm 43 years old so since i was 12 years old when i was 12 years old i saw "moonraker" with my father. since then i've seen them all. of course, 007 is in my life, many other people's lives since they were young because it's 50 years, it's a lot of time doing movies and to be part of it now, it's a privilege. it's really an honor. >> excited when they approached you to play the role? >> yeah, totally but at the same time you have to forget about it and focus on what they're proposing you to do because otherwise this will be too heavy to make any decision, so when i was working and shooting, i didn't want to think too much about it. now that i'm promoting the movie i just realized it's 007 and the movie that celebrate
